Our Story

1889: E.J. Eddy’s Hardware

The five story brick structure which is home to the Exchange was erected in 1889 by Emerson Joel Eddy, and began its life as E.J. Eddy’s Stoves, Hardware & Crockery. It included one of the first elevators in the city of Syracuse, still in operation today!

1930s: Whitehouse Supply Co.

In the 1930s it became the Whitehouse Supply Co., which began as an appliance store and eventually expanded into televisions, plumbing & heating supplies, and more. Whitehouse closed shortly after Carousel (now Destiny) Mall opened in 1990.

1991: The Exchange

In 1991, Syracuse Antiques Exchange was opened by David Jenks. The store has undergone many changes and updates over its lifetime, but we are proud to have been CNY’s premier destination for antiques & vintage for over three decades!

The building’s next chapter is already underway: with the help of Onondaga County, the façade will undergo a complete restoration over the next several years, including repainting of the historic signage. We’re also in the process of rehabbing the green space next to the building for outdoor events.
